Clayfield House Renovation: Integrating the Old with the New

Chimney Area Before Renovation Snapshot in Clayfield
Clayfield, Brisbane | House renovation

The old and the new were successfully blended in this Clayfield house renovation.

The existing residence remained in position and was restumped and dug underneath.  The delicate, historic chimney was carefully supported throughout the process so it could be retained to house the new oven in its former fireplace.  This became a standout feature of the contemporary kitchen.

To make the most of the existing structure, the side verandah of the existing house was converted into a walk-in-robe, office and bathroom, while the roofline of a window hood was enclosed to create a pantry off the kitchen.

Contemporary design features were injected throughout the house including patterned and brightly coloured wall paper, on-trend tiles and fittings, and modern day conveniences in the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms.  These were positioned alongside traditional VJs, ornate cornices and furnishings that paid tribute to the home’s former era.

As part of this house renovation project, we were also proud to create a replica silky oak beam for the sitting area to reflect original elements of the home.

“We are completely thrilled with the house.  It has made a tremendous difference to the way we live as a family, and it is a delight to see the changes we envisioned come to fruition.”
